    The open source revolution.
    One of the most difficult aspects of teaching the IT strands of CTS is the availability of reasonably priced software. The intent of this site is to provide CTS teachers with effective, reliable, and most importantly FREE software.

    What is Open Source
    Open Source is a belief shared amongst thousands of programmers throughout the internet. Open source programmers believe that the best way to develop stable, reliable software is to share the work amongst many volunteers. To do this, developers make both the software and the source code available to anyone who wishes to use it. Not only is open source software free, it is often a violation of the license agreement to charge money for it! It is important to note that not all software linked to from this site is licenced this way. With any software you download it is important to read the licence agreement before installing.

    Flavours of Free

    Throughout this site I will use the following symbols to designate the licence type of the software I link to. It is important to note that you will not find Shareware or Demonstration software on this site, as these programs are not in fact free. The authors usually provide you with an evaluation period before you are legally required to purchase the software.

    Open Source
    Truely free software. Both the application and the code used to write it are freely available.

    Freeware
    While there is no charge for this software, the source code is not available.

    AdWare
    While you don't need to spend money, you can expect ads to be delivered into the application from the internet.
